Benjamin Vernon Jurado Jr. was released from illness on December 17, 2023, in his adopted hometown of Portsmouth, Ohio. Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, Benny is preceded in passing by his parents Benjamin Jurado Sr. and Selma (Wray) Jurado. He was a proud veteran of the Louisiana Army National Guard. He served as a Master Electrician for Lockheed Martin, earning the highest awards given, for his work at the NASA facility in New Orleans.
Benny married Angela (Whaley) Jurado on July 23, 1994, and is Dad to six adult children including Todd (Tiffany) Jurado, Kaitlyn Jurado, Benjamin V. "Khi" Jurado III, Jonathan (Lindsay) Brashear, and Justin Brashear. With 4 Grandchildren in Louisiana, Ashley, Alexis, Hunter and Mason, Benny was known as "Poppy" to his granddaughters, Chloe Brashear and Serenity Brashear, and assuredly continues to believe that they are indeed The Cat’s Pajamas!
In addition to his wife, children, and grandchildren, Benny precedes 2 Aunts, Sylvia Peralta and Juanita Allen, Brother Daniel (Patricia) Jurado, Sister Cindy Oser, Brother Christopher (Virgie) Jurado, and a host of nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins.
His kindness and gentle nature were apparent to anyone that he met. His favorite moments were spent with his family, especially his youngest son Khi, whom he often looked forward to "running the errands" with each afternoon. Benny was a passionate collector and restorer of antique radios and clocks, as well as a talented mechanic. He enjoyed assisting his loved ones with household projects, and never hesitated to be there at a moment's notice. He was hard working, selfless, and spent most of his time caring for and working toward his family's future.
Benny spent the last years of his time with us at Bridgeport Manor, and his family wishes to thank members of his caregiving team. A special gratitude is owed to Pastor John Partlow and Heartland Hospice. A graveside service for loved ones will be scheduled at Omega Cemetery in the near future. He is no longer in our presence -- but there is no distance, illness, or other power that can remove him from our hearts and memories.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13th, at Memorial Burial Park with military honors by the James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.
