Betty F. Leesburg, 85, of Wheelersburg, died Tuesday, January 6, 2015, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland, KY. Born on August 8, 1929 in Fullerton, KY, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Fankell and was a cosmetologist for more than 40 years. Betty was a proud 1947 East High School graduate, who was still celebrating each month with her classmates. She attended Union Free Will Baptist Church and was a member of the Eastern Star in Wheelersburg.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, Donald Leesburg, whom she married on December 20, 1947, two sisters, Eileen Miller and Wanda Fankell Welch and two brothers, Raymond Fankell and Earl Fankell.
Surviving are a son, Michael (Karen) Leesburg and a daughter, Beverly (Michael) Cook, all of Wheelersburg’ five grandchildren, Micah (Traci Tackett) Cook, Miles (Lindsey) Cook, Lynnsay (Kyle) Hickman, Michael Leesburg, Jr., and Katelyn Leesburg; five great-grandchildren, Taylor Cook, Miles Cook II, Marlowe Hickman, Sadie Hickman and Isla Hickman and a God granddaughter, Lyndsay “Lenny” Kulp.
Also surviving are a brother, Russell (Sherry) Fankell of Wheelersburg, and many nieces and nephews, all who loved her dearly. Betty was a beautiful person, so kind and giving, and loved by all who knew her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
