CARL EUGENE DAVIS, 84, of Rosemount, formerly of Sciotoville, died Friday, December 9, 2011, at the Chillicothe VA Hospital. Born August 6, 1927 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Shirley Edward and Tina Edith Zornes Davis, and was a retired captain with the Scioto County Sherriff’s Department with over 25 years as a Deputy. Gene was a career Army veteran of 23 years, serving during both the Korean War and Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart in 1951 for injuries in 1950. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, AMVETS, Eagles, Moose and I.O.O.F. and was instrumental in getting the KIA MIA Memorial in Tracy Park. Surviving are his wife, Wanda Donathan Davis, two sons, Michael (Marie) Davis of Westerville and Mark Davis of Rosemount, three daughters, Suzanne (David) Hazelbaker of Rosemount, Marian (Donald) Jones of Eaton and Karen (Randy) Craft of Columbus and 10 grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were 11 brothers and sisters. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Oscar Perry officiating. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Portsmouth from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, with military honors being rendered by the U.S. Army Detachment from Ft. Knox and the James Dickey Post of the American Legion.
