Cecil Eugene Coey, 87, a long time former resident of Sciotoville, Ohio, died on July 27, 2012 at his home in Davidson, North Carolina. He was born January 28, 1925 to the late Edith (nee Reeder) and Floyd M. Coey.
He is survived by two sons, Larry E. Coey (Penny – nee Gabriel) of Denver, Colorado and Timothy F. Coey (Mary - nee Birch) of Huntersville, North Carolina; one daughter, Nancy A. Coey of Ft. Myers, Florida; two granddaughters, Kimberly E. (nee Coey) Miller and McKenzie L. Coey; and two grandsons, Cristopher E. Coey and Clark E. Coey. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Patricia A. (nee Matheney) Coey, a granddaughter, Ashley M. Coey, two sisters, two brothers, and his parents.
Mr. Coey was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and fought on Omaha Beach in the Normandy Invasion on D-Day as well as the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded many medals including a Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.
A celebration of his life will be held at Brant Funeral Services in Sciotoville, Ohio on Saturday, August 4, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675, got@woundedwarriorproject.org .
