David C. Evans, 85, of Sciotoville, died Friday, June 28, 2013, at his home. Born on December 27, 1927 in Scioto County, he was a son of the late Roscoe and Myrtle Bloomfield Evans, was an army veteran of World War II, and owner of the former Corner Market in Sciotoville and Evans Super Market in Clarktown.
Dave was an avid bowling coach and member of the Portsmouth Bowling Association, charter member of the Sciotoville Boat Club, an avid golfer and fisherman, and retired from Empire-Detroit Steel Corporation after 32 years of service. He was also a member of the Portsmouth Elks, Portsmouth Moose, and James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion. Dave was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence W. Evans and sisters, Helen Strickland and Irene Gammon.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn Lantz Evans, two sons, Michael Scot Evans of Sciotoville and Joseph Mark (Jennifer) Evans of Portsmouth, two daughters, Kathiann (Rick) Felts of Knoxville, TN and Jani Marie (Bryan) Sturgell of Wheelersburg, three sisters, Alma Payton and Patty Thompson, both of Sciotoville and Peggy Whitehouse of Kansas, three grandchildren, Brian (Lucia) Evans of TX, Matthew David Evans, proudly serving in the U.S. Navy in Jacksonville, Fla, and Mark Anthony Evans of Portsmouth, a great-grandson, Mason Joseph Evans of Portsmouth and five step-grandchildren, Billy Tolle, Courtney Wynkopp, Brian Felts, Kyle Felts, Derrick Pernell and Amber Pernell.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rev. Joseph Yokum officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter’s Cemetery with military honors by the James Dickey Post #23. The family will receive friends at Brant’s from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
