Dewey Wright, Jr., 78, of Eden Park, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, October 3, 2010, at the Southern Ohio Medical Center after a long illness. Born November 29, 1931 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Rev. Dewey Wright, Sr. and Della Mae Turner Wright. Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Beulah Cox Wright, four children, Beecher (Sherry) Wright of Portsmouth, Betty (Ron) Grigsby of Hendersonville, NC, Cathy Noles of Portsmouth and Thomas Wright of Chapin, SC; eight grandchildren, Chris (Tina) Wright, Shelley (Dan) Nunley, Kathy (Andi) Zamer, Josie Noel, Nathaniel Wright, Rachael Grigsby, Abi Grigsby and Jordan Wright and 7 great-grandchildren. Also preceding him in death were his sisters, Thelma Bennett and Hazel Seibert. Dewey graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1949. He met his wife, Beulah, while driving for Portsmouth City Bus Lines. After returning from the Korean War while serving in the Navy, he was a long time body shop foreman for Portsmouth Motors and Frank Tiedge Ford for 20 years. Dewey retired after owning and operating Wright’s Body shop for 10 years. He was a member of Rubyville Community Church and James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion, and formerly associated with the Aurora Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, York Rite and the Shriners. A funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Calvin Ray Evans and Brian Baer as officiants. Interment will be in Siloam Cemetery (KY) with military honors by the James Dickey Post. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Portsmouth from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
