Dixie Kay Spears , 68, of Sciotoville, died Monday, November 11, 2013, at the Ohio State University Hospital.  Born on July 24, 1945 in Minford, she was a daughter of the late Ruby Francis and Opal Horsley Smith and was the owner of Dixie’s Mercantile in Sciotoville.  Dixie loved all things, especially dogs and cats, was always generous, had a deep faith in God, enjoyed Christmas music, and was the best listener.  Rather than dine at a fancy restaurant, she wanted to go to Bob Evans.

Surviving are her former husband, Joe Spears, and his children, Joanna (Jerry) Shoemaker, Michael (Bev) Spears and Missy Beaman, a “daughter”, Patty (Marty) Staker, a “son”, Tony (Donna) Hubbard, a sister, Marcella (Dean) Sparks of Wheelersburg, two brothers, Vernon (Paula Merrick) Smith of Minford and Vaughn (Peggy) Smith of Columbus, niece and nephew, Dixie Amelia “Ami” (Greg) Beever and  Nathan (Nina) Smith, great nieces and nephews, Toni (Ben) Gill, Michael Staker, and Katelyn Staker and Taylyn Reine , and a great-great niece, Madelyn Gill and a great-great nephew, Brady Gill.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rev. Ron Parker officiating.  Interment will be in the Memorial Burial Park.  The family will receive friends at Brant’s from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.  Memorial contributions may be made to Sierra’s Haven.
