Donald Davis , 84, of Wheelersburg, died Saturday, January 25, 2014 at the VA Medical Center in Chillicothe. Born on May 24, 1929 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Cecil and Evelyn Long Davis, and was a professional photographer for Don Davis Photography.
He attended Grace United Methodist Church in South Webster, was a Kentucky Colonel, was on the board of directors for the Roy Rogers-Dale Evans Collectors Association, a photographer for River Days and Civil Defense, and was on the Country Music Highway Committee. Don was also a member of the Ohio Erie Canal Society and was a recipient of many awards and certificates for all of his inventions, ideas and accomplishments. One of his many recognitions was a special acknowledgment from the Queen of England at Buckingham Palace.
Surviving are his wife, Garnet Ruggles Davis, a son, Terry Lee (Annette) Davis of Alachua, FL, a daughter, Carol (David) Bentley of South Portsmouth, a stepdaughter, Pamela (Danny) Altman of Minford, a brother, Gary Cecil (Ginny) Davis of Las Vegas, NV, six grandchildren, James Davis, Thomas Davis, Meagan Bentley-Mays, Ashley Bentley-Mullins, Amanda Raynard, and Jessica Raynard, and five great-grandchildren, Micah Mullins, Josie Mullins, Sawyer Mays, Liam Mays, and Kyndal Donini.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rev. Larry Moore officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion. The family will receive friends at Brant’s from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
