Dorothy Garlinger, 85, of Flatwoods, KY, formerly of Wheelersburg, died Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Russell, KY and had been residing at Trinity Station Retirement Community in Flatwoods since 2007. Born on May 20, 1925 in Chicago, IL, she was the first daughter of the late Albert and Amelia Peterson. Dorothy and her husband, Harold, were the founders and operators of the original Little Scioto Country Club in Wheelersburg, OH. She had also been a licensed beautician in Ohio for several years before starting the golf course in 1965. “Dot” was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, an avid knitter and reader. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold E. Garlinger; her parents and youngest sister Alberta “Boots” Rebenstorf. Surviving are her son; Michael (Cheryl) Garlinger of Russell, KY; a daughter Barbara (James) Hartlage of Wytheville, VA; three grandchildren; a great-grandson, and a sister Alice Porter of St. Charles, IL. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville, Ohio with Rev. Janet Hatch officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park in Wheelersburg, Ohio. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Sciotoville from 5 to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
