Olive Elaine Mathews, 71, formerly of Sciotoville, went to be with her Lord on Thursday, December 8. 2016, in Titusville, Florida. Born on September 17, 1945 in Sciotoville, she was a daughter of Carl Gregory, Sr. and Vada Dillon Gregory and was a retired office manager for a dental office in Florida.
Elaine was a member of Cedar Street Church of Christ in Christian Union and attended for many years various Nazarene Churches. She was a matron of the Mims, Florida D.A.V. and a leader of Mimes Moose fund raisers for children. Elaine played the clarinet in the East High band where she graduated in 1963.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Major James Mathews (ret.), her mother, Vada, and a sister, Vicky Gregory.
Surviving are her father, Carl Gregory, Sr. of Mims; three brothers, Carl Gregory, Jr. and Ron Gregory, both of Mims and Emmett Gregory of Portsmouth; a sister, Nancy Bostick of New Boston, several nieces and nephews and multiple great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Celebration of Elaine’s Life will be held 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Dr. Robert Newman officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Memorial gifts may be made to SOMC Hospice.
