Emogene Woodrum Knost, 89, of Wheelersburg, formerly of Portsmouth, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, November 10, 2011 at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born in Portsmouth on June 7, 1922, she was a daughter of the late Glenn and Lucy Woodrum, and was the widow of William E. Knost whom she married on April 25, 1947. For the first four years of their marriage, they resided in Columbus while her husband attended the Ohio State University and Emogene worked at Dunn and Bradstreet. Since returning to Portsmouth in 1951, she was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, and was a superb baker. A member of Central Church of Christ for 60 years, she was a member of the Friendly Workers Class, past president of the Loyal Daughters Class, a former Sunday School teacher in the primary department, and was instrumental in organizing Women’s Prayer Groups and Home Bible Study Groups. Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Knost of Wheelersburg and Joette (Mark) Schafer of Mechanicsburg, PA; two granddaughters, Kristy (Michael) Kennedy of Vanceburg, KY and Amanda (Andrew) Schaffer of Leesburg, VA; two great-granddaughters, Laira and Colleen Kennedy; a great-grandson, Carter Schaffer; a brother, William Woodrum of Portsmouth; and two sisters, Virginia Buckland of Missouri City, TX and Marian Woodrum of Portsmouth; and a special friend, David Keeney. Also preceding her death was a sister, Joanne Woodrum Gaines. A Celebration of Life will be held 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Dennis Dawes officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends after 11:00 a.m. Monday at Brant’s in Portsmouth.
