Ernest Fred Ferrell, 74, of Sciotoville, better known as “Papaw”, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. Born on August 7, 1941 in Lyra, he was a son of the late James and Arlena Boggs Ferrell and was retired from Laborer’s Local #83.
Also preceding him in death were five brothers, Harold, Willie, John, Glen and Dewey Ferrell and two sisters, Ester Ferrell and Maude Armstrong.
Fred is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Ethel Bowling Ferrell; two daughters, Pam (Bob) McCann and Kim Bower; three granddaughters, Leslie (Michael) Keating, Carissa (Ladd) Dunham and Britni (Reggie Knighten) McCann, a grandson, Sean Bower a special nephew, John Bowling and a granddaughter by love, Susie Featherolf; and five great-grandchildren, Josiah Bower, Grace Ann Keating, Brysen Knighten, Tristan Dunham and Riley Knighten.
Also surviving are six brothers, Wilford (Joy), Troy (Lola), Floyd (Pam), Ralph, Danny and Clifford (Christine) Ferrell.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Travis Chapman officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery. The family will receive guests at Brant’s after 12:00 noon on Saturday. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Jude’s Hospital.
Fred’s family would like to thank the aides and nurses from Heartland of Portsmouth and Heartland Hospice who took such special care of Papaw.
