Franklin Ray Sweeney, 75, of Wheelersburg, passed away peacefully on Friday afternoon, September 1, 2023, in the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by his family. Born on July 2, 1948, in South Shore, KY, he was a son of the late Frank and Nana Lea Boggs Sweeney and attended the First Church of the Nazarene.
A graduate of McKell High School in South Shore, he was a well-known insurance salesman for Commonwealth, Monumental, Transamerica and lastly at Western & Southern Life.
Ray was a very proud Navy veteran.
Also preceding him in death were his wife, Tamara Sue Sweeney, a brother, Mike Sweeney, a granddaughter, Savannah Dawn Sweeney and a great-granddaughter, Ariya Crace.
Surviving are a daughter, Tara (Fred) Jordan of Wheelersburg, two sons, Christian (Sherrie) Sweeney and Sean Sweeney of Ross County, two brothers, Randy (Kim) Sweeney and Wayne Sweeney of Gallipolis, a sister, Sharon Bailey of Rosemount, and six grandchildren, Taylor, Delaney, Addie, Keegan, Alayna and Kaliyah.
A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September, 5th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Wayne Sweeney officiating. Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery with military honors by the James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.
Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
The American flags on the avenue, along with the U.S. Navy flag, will fly in honor of our proud veteran, Ray Sweeney.
