Hazel Maurine Keene, 81, of Wheelersburg, passed away on November 29, 2014. Known to her friends and family as “Sissie”, she was born on March 15, 1933, in Sciotoville, to the late William and Julia (Montgomery) Bradshaw. Additionally, she was deeply loved and influenced by Elsie (Gulley) Bradshaw.
She was a faithful follower of her Savior throughout her life. A graduate of Portsmouth East High School, Morehead State College, and the University of Tennessee, she taught others the home economics skills of cooking, hospitality, and sewing that she loved so much. Hazel was a member of Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville, and she will be remembered as one who lived a kingdom life, providing food to the hungry, water to the thirsty, and a home for travelers.
On July 22, 1956, she married her college sweetheart, Leslie Arnold Keene of Pikeville, Kentucky, who survives her. Also surviving are two daughters, Marsha (Mike) Lyman and Linda (Jack) Woodring; six grandchildren, Jonathon, Andrew, and Sarah Lyman, and Kayla, David, and Daniel Woodring; and two nieces, Karen Holt and Paula Leggett. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Ann Johnson and Betty Winton.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Berean Baptist Church in Sciotoville with Pastor Tim Goodwin officiating. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Franklin Furnace. The family will receive guests at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 5-7 pm on Monday, December 1, 2014. Memorial gifts may be sent to Berean Baptist Church Mission Fund. Berean will designate the gifts for the Keene Kitchen and Dining Center at Forest Glen Bible Camp in Nova Scotia, Canada, where the Keenes served during the summers from 1993-2005.
