Helyn Jane Secrest died Saturday, August 1, 2015, at Best Care Rehab and Convalescent Center in Wheelersburg.
Born on November 17, 1928 in Firebrick, KY, she was a daughter of the late Samuel R. and Sally Alexander Fetters, attended First Christian Church in Portsmouth and was a retired Licensed Practical Nurse from SOMC, with 16 years of service.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, James W. Secrest, a daughter, Cyndee Secrest and a sister, Bettie De Amicis.
Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Jamie and Ralph Barber of Wheelersburg, her sisters-in-law, Betty Hargis and Maxine Secrest, both of Tulsa, Oklahoma; her nieces, Teresa, Vickie, Dottie, Susie, Molly, Mandy, Bonnie, Becky and Brenda, a nephew, Charles, and her dear friend of 50 years, Sue Welch of Portsmouth.
Helyn was a 1947 graduate of Portsmouth East High School and at age 50, she entered Shawnee State and attended classes in United Health. She graduated as an L.P.N., was member of the Pleasure Guild at SOMC, and was a volunteer for both the Cancer Resource Center and hospice. Helyn was very proud that she was inducted into the Portsmouth Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame in 1998.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 5th at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE. Interment will be in the Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive guests at Brant’s after 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday. Memorial gifts may be made to the First Christian Church Women’s Fellowship or Sierra’s Haven.
