Henry “Junior” Spencer, Jr., 76, of New Boston, died Saturday, April 5, 2014, at Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital in Ashland, KY. Born on August 27, 1937 in New Boston, he was a son of the late Henry Spencer, Sr. and Minnie Kegley Spencer, and was a retired insurance adjustor for Grange Insurance. Junior was a Kentucky Colonel, a NASCAR driver from 1964-1965 and drove race cars at local dirt and asphalt tracks, where he won several championships. He enjoyed restoring numerous antique cars.
Also preceding him in death was a brother, Paul Spencer and a sister, Maxine Jenderny.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Castle Spencer, two sons, Christopher Spencer and Todd Bretz; a daughter, Mary Ann (Jerry) Gulley; a grandson, Chad Gulley; six nephews and 8 nieces.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Bruce Hines officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Junior Spencer Racing Memorial Fund at PNC Bank.
