Jacqueline (Jackie) Shepherd Wittenburg passed away August 19th at the Southern Ohio Medical Center. Born August 16, 1927 in Royston Hertfordshire, England, she was the daughter of the late Charles G. and Mary Elizabeth Shepherd. Also preceding her in death are her husband, Lynn C. Wittenburg; her son, Philip C. Waddell, and two brothers, Robert Shepherd of Royston, Hertfordshire, England and Pat Spurgeon of Queensville, Ontario, Canada. Surviving are her daughter, Karen J. Waddell of Portsmouth; stepson, L. Scott (Marilyn) Wittenburg of Worthington, stepdaughter, Lynnda C. (David) Witt of Sarasota, Fla.; two sisters, Jean Hopewell of Hove, Sussex, England and Elizabeth Beaumont of Sheffield, Yorkshire, England; a sister-in-law, Muriel Shepherd of Royston, Hertfordshire, England; numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren; and her two dearest friends, Ingrid Bridwell and Janet Shuter, both of Portsmouth. Jackie came to Portsmouth from England in 1945 at the age of 18, following WWII, as the war bride of Robert M. Waddell. She married the love of her life, Lynn C. Wittenburg in 1984. Together they enjoyed travel, golf, and good times. Over the years, Jackie worked at Marting’s, Security Central National Bank, and for Dr. Spencer K. Miller. In later years, she volunteered for Meals on Wheels and the SOMC Gift Gallery. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church, an avid bridge player and an animal lover. She generously supported the Salvation Army, ASPCA and Sierra’s Haven. A memorial service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 28th, at the Brant Funeral Home in Portsmouth with Richard Schisler officiating. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Portsmouth one hour prior to the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the ASPCA, SOMC Hospice and Sierra’s Haven.
