James Layher

April 3, 1945 — August 21, 2018

James E. Layher, 73, of Wheelersburg, died Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the SOMC Hospice Center, with his family by his bedside.  Born on April 3, 1945 in Scioto Furnace, he was a son of the late Everett and Goldie Triggs Layher and was retired from OSCO.

Jim loved sports, which included his favorite teams, the South Webster Jeeps Basketball Team, Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  He also enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions.

Also preceding him in death were two sisters, Charlotte and Caroline Layher.

Surviving are his wife, Sharon Carter Layher; a daughter, Cynthia (Tyler) Hyland of Centerville; two brothers, Charles (Rhonda) Layher of Wheelersburg and Gary Layher of Scioto Furnace; a sister, Eileen Mustain of Sciotoville; two grandchildren, Olivia and Bryce; and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 25th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Rev. Michael Steven Percell and Rev. Owen Stotts officiating.  Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice.

The family wishes to thank the SOMC Hospice Center and the James Cancer Hospital for their care during this difficult time.
