James Williams

July 7, 1942 — January 2, 2016

James D. Williams, 73, of Hill View, formerly of Wheelersburg, died Saturday, January 2, 2016 at the SOMC Hospice Center.  Born on July 7, 1942 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of Frances Burke Williams and the late Clyde Williams.  Jim was a graduate of Wheelersburg High School, Rio Grande College and Xavier University.

He spent his long time educational career at Portsmouth High School, where he served as Civics and Government Teacher before becoming the Senior Guidance Counselor.  While at Portsmouth High School, he directed the Revelers Drama Club and assisted with many musicals.  He also chaired the Scioto County Area Foundation Scholarship committee for many years.  Jim was a long time member of the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Chancel Choir and served on many committees and chaired the Worship Committee for numerous years.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Myers Williams; a daughter, Jill (Todd) Preston of Portsmouth; a grandson, Tanner; his mother, Frances Williams of Hill View; two brothers, Randy Williams of Circleville and Mark Williams of Bexley; three nephews and three nieces.

A Celebration of Jim’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, January 7th, at the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Prosch and Rev. Richard North officiating.  Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park.  The family will receive guests at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wheelersburg United Methodist Church, SOMC Hospice or the American Diabetes Association.
