Jessie Ruggles

Jessie Louise Ruggles, 93, of Sciotodale, went to be with her Lord on Monday, August 15, 2022, in the SOMC Hospice Center.  Born on October 29, 1928 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late William and Delzie Fields Newsome and was a devout member of Rocky Fork Primitive Baptist Church.

Jessie was formerly employed in the laundry department at Hempstead for 16 years.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Carl Vernon Ruggles, who died in 1991; a son, Carl Roger Ruggles, three daughters, Joenita Knapp, Brenda Fay and Kimberly Gifford; brothers, Virlene, Elcaney, Muncy, Tilman, Daniel and David Newsome; and sisters, Mattie Shope, Marie Newsome, May Seaman, Evelyn Martin, Mary Jane Justice, Darlene Justice, Beatrice Shy, Ivy Newsome, Lettie Gibson and Verdie Newsome.

Surviving are three sons, Vernon (Ann) Ruggles of Minford, Darrell (Roberta)  Ruggles of Indiana and Martin Ruggles of West Portsmouth; three daughters, Susan Lawhorn of Elyria, Deborah Scott of West Portsmouth and Delzia (Gerald) Jones of Sciotodale; sisters, Linda Newsome and Rita (Dave) Messer of Franklin Furnace; thirty-seven grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.

A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 20th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Dennis Hankins officiating.  Interment will be in Old Allen Cemetery in South Shore, KY.

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
