JoAnn Porter 85, of Wheelersburg, went to be with her Lord peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her children and grandchildren on Sunday, April 22, 2018. JoAnn was born on November 22, 1932 in New Holland, Ohio to the late Howard Mahan and Dorothy Arledge Mahan McMeans. She was a former employee of Mercy Hospital where she worked as a Ward Clerk.
JoAnn was a loving, generous and true matriarch. She was an ever-present, generous and nurturing presence in her family’s life; making each holiday special and making each child, grandchild and great-grandchild feel special and truly cherished. She will be remembered for her beautiful rose gardens, her craftiness, creativeness, her enjoyment of garage sales, playing Scrabble, and watching the Martins come each spring.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ellsworth C. Porter, a son, Daniel Porter; a grandson, Phillip Porter, Jr. and a great-granddaughter, Heidi Doolittle.
Survivors include five sons, John Porter of Berkley, CA James Porter of Wheelersburg, David (Loretta) Porter of Wheelersburg, Phillip Porter of South Webster, and Kevin (Arlene) Porter of Marysville; two daughters, Bonnie (Bane) Sylvia and Ruth (Randy) Murphy, all of Wheelersburg; a sister, Phyllis (Ken) Crady from Sequim, WA; many grandchildren, Rose (Todd) Paoletti, Julian Clemens, Adam (Molly) Sylvia, Rebecca Sylvia, Rhett (Dottie) Murphy, Ryan (Katie) Murphy, Ross (Jodie) Murphy, Misty (Tony) Combs, McKenzie Porter, Michelle (Mark) Ramey, Daniel Ross (Katie) Porter, Jr., Tracy Pettigrew, John Porter, David (Bethanie) Porter, Jr., Kasey Jo (Ryan) Rush, Cori (Erin) Martin, Jamie (Richard) Ottney, Holly Marie Doolittle, Eric (Brittany) Porter, Alyssa Porter, Abby Porter, Alex Porter and Desiree Dotson; and many great-grandchildren, Ben and Julia Paoletti, Nick and Nathan Sylvia, Braden, Hannah, Reese, Molly, Connor and Lila Murphy, Chase Rawlins, Eleasah Jo Combs, Davin Simmons, David Porter III, Aiden Spang, Braden Bennington, Colin Bennington, Kendyll Ramey, Trinity, Alizia and Xavier Pettigrew, Ava, Isabella and Ace Rush, Taylor, Cortni, Savana and Michael Martin, Ethan Niner, Layla and Max Ottney, Caden Johnson, Levi Doolittle, Carter Adkins and Wyatt Porter. JoAnn dearly loved her dog, Ellie.
A Celebration of JoAnn’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 27th, at the Cornerstone Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Matt Hancock and Pastor Ralph Clay officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. A visitation at the church will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Arrangements are under the direction of the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE.
