John Sparks, 77, of Wheelersburg, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014, at the Concord Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wheelersburg. Born on May 5, 1936 in Garrison, KY, he was a son of the late John Sparks and Opal Mae Scott Sparks, and was retired from Dayton-Walther Foundry. John was especially proud of being the former president of the Steel Work’s Union-Dayton Walther Division and loved his children and grandchildren very much.
Also preceding him in death were his wives, Yvonne Nolan Sparks and Barbara Greenhill Sparks, a sister, Wanda Day, and a grandson, Trenton Sparks.
Surviving are two sons, John (Kathy) Sparks of Sciotoville and Michael (Tonicia) Sparks of Portsmouth; four daughters, Rosemarie Sparks, Sandy (Terry) Greenhill and Teresa (Jerry) Drake, all of Wheelersburg, and Kelley (Shane) Carpenter of Sciotoville; a stepson, Brian (Brenda) Bays of Wheelersburg; a sister, Mary Lou (Dave Williams) Estep of Raceland, KY; 18 very special grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Dennis Evans officiating. Entombment will be in Edgewood Abbey Mausoleum at Memorial Burial Park. The family will receive friends at Brant’s from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to the activity fund at Concord.
John’s family wishes to publicly acknowledge the wonderful care and compassion shown by the staff and management of Concord, and will be forever grateful.
