Juanita “Edie” Smith, 77, of Sciotoville, died Sunday, April 19, 2015, at her home. Born on September 10, 1937 in New Boston, she was a daughter of the late John “Doc” Mowery and Minnie Boggs Mowery was a former housekeeping supervisor for Hempstead Manor, serving over 30 years and was a board member of the Highland Bend Community Church.
Edie was also preceded in death by her husband, Bruce P. Smith, a sister, Lorene Ward and four brothers, Hobert, Herbert, John and James Mowery.
Surviving are three sons, Bruce R. Smith and Gregory S. (Sonya) Smith, all of Sciotoville and Terry R. (Mary) Smith of Fayetteville, NC; two daughters, Dorinda (Ardes) Shaw of Alabama and Vera Hammond of Sciotoville and six sisters, Mary Snyder of Minford, Helen Helton of South Shore, KY, Ruth Sheers of Cleveland, Sue Morris of Ranger, GA, Flora (Warren) Cooley of Sciotoville and Kay (Jim) Horsley of Wheelersburg. Edie is also survived by two special grandchildren, Bruce (Jackie) Smith, Jr. and Christopher (Vanessa) Smith; eight additional grandchildren, Joe (Berline) Gregory, Jr., Eric Hammond, Lashonda (J.R.) Hickman, Adam Smith, Kendrick Shaw, Jamaal (Tori) Shaw, Amanda Smith and Felicia Smith; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Kenneth (Sis) Smith of West Portsmouth.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25th at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Willard Blankenship officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive guests at Brant’s from noon until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
