Juanita “Chick” Giles, 84, of Wheelersburg, formerly of Sciotoville, died Tuesday, September 29, 2015, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born on March 3, 1931 in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late William and Agnes Carr Shump and was a former cashier for Glockner’s for over 20 years. Chick was a member of the Sciotoville Christ United Methodist Church.
Juanita was a stay at home mom and was honored to be a caregiver to her mother and other family members. Many will reflect on her wonderful cooking, where home cooked meals were always available. A graduate of East High School, Ed and Chick’s home was the Sciotoville hangout for the neighborhood kids: playing pool, basketball, board games and “just hanging out”.
Also preceding her in death were her husband, Edward F. Giles, four brothers, Don, Curtis, Dennis and Marvin Shump and a sister, Dorothy Yeagle.
Surviving are a son, Bruce (Kathy) Giles of Wheelersburg, a daughter, Marsha (Wendell) Skinner of Sciotoville, four grandchildren, Troy Skinner, Scott Skinner, Jodi Lynn Giles and Brennon Giles, and a great-granddaughter, Laiken Skinner.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 1st, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor John Richards officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Burial Park at the convenience of the family.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Memorial gifts may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or SOMC Hospice.
