Leeta June Stapleton, 80, of Sciotoville, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born on February 28, 1936 in New Boston, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Goldie Rolfe Mathis and was a homemaker.
Leeta was preceded in death by her husband, William R. Stapleton, four brothers, Lonnie, Paul, Ed and Bernie; a sister, Nora; and a granddaughter, Erica Stanfield.
Surviving are a son, James “Butch” (Johnna) Stapleton of New Boston; three daughters, Kathy (John) Reid of Portsmouth, Sonya Stapleton of Sciotoville and Patricia (John) Watkins of Wheelersburg; four brothers, Elbie (Maxine) Mathis, Roger Mathis, James Mathis and Tom Mathis; seven sisters, Norma, Pat, Carolyn, Lana, Bonnie, Mert and Loreetta; eight grandchildren, Stephanie (Kevin) Preston, James (Whitney) Stapleton, Joshua Stapleton, Kayla Stapleton, Nathaniel King, Saleeta Andrews, Shane Stapleton and Justin Shaffer; fifteen great-grandchildren and a great-great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 7th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Evangelist Calvin Ray Evans officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Burial Park.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s after 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
