W. E. “Mac” McFarland, 82, of Wheelersburg, died Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Best Care Nursing and Rehab in Wheelersburg. Born on July 5, 1933 in Piketon, he was a son of the late Robert and Hazel Rose McFarland, was a field engineer and owner/operator of McFarland Backhoe Service and Real Estate Co. He graduated from Piketon High School in 1952 and attended Bliss College.
A proud Army veteran of the Korean War, he was a member of the James Dickey Post of the American Legion, VFW Post 3638 and DAV Post 134.
Mac loved his community and was an avid sports fan in all aspects, and was a major contributor to the Wheelersburg Community. He was a faithful member of Wheelersburg United Methodist Church since 1955, was a member of the Porter Township Fire Department, past president of the Memorial Burial Park Association and was a current board member of the Scioto County Board of Health.
Mac was a former member of the Wheelersburg Board of Education and Porter Township Trustee, both for 12 years.
He was a 60 year member of Western Sun Masonic Lodge #91, Valley of Cincinnati Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Syrian Shriners of Cincinnati, charter member of the former Wheelersburg Kiwanis Club and charter member of the Scenic River Valley.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Nancy Miller McFarland, whom he married in 1957, two brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are his son, Judge Matthew (Lynn) McFarland of Wheelersburg, two daughters, Dana (Jim) Schwamburger of Virginia Beach, VA and Mary Jane (Steve) Fast of Haviland and seven grandchildren, Brooke (Scott) Storms, Joel Schwamburger, Nathan Fast, Austin Fast, Logan Fast, Mitchell McFarland and Maty McFarland.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, December 18th, at Wheelersburg United Methodist Church with Rev. Perry Prosch and Rev. Gary Heimbach officiating. Entombment will be in the Edgewood Abbey Mausoleum at Memorial Burial Park with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion.
The family will receive guests at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday and one hour prior to the celebration at the church.
A Masonic service will be held at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday followed by the Scottish Rite ring ceremony.
Memorial gifts may be made to Western Sun Masonic Lodge Endowment Fund, Wheelersburg Athletic Association or SOMC Hospice.
