Mary Jean Book

Mary Jean Book, 66, died Sunday afternoon, August 6, 2023, in the SOMC Hospice Center surrounded by her loving family.  Born on September 7, 1956, in Portsmouth, she was a daughter of the late Gerald and Norma Lewis Porter and was a retired data processing supervisor for the State of Ohio.

Mary had attended First United Methodist Church and was a very active volunteer for Potter’s House, including yearly tax preparation, and was an Ombudsman for Area Agency on Aging.  She enjoyed being a poll worker for Clay Township.

Also preceding her in death were her husband, Robert Arthur Book, a brother, Thomas Lee Porter, two nephews, Scott Andrew William Porter and Christopher Porter and a great-nephew, Ryder Andrew Uhl.

Surviving are four brothers, Joe (Barbara) Porter of Hartsville, SC, Tom (Donna) Porter of Chillicothe, Danny (Beverly) Porter of Lancaster and David (Cheryl) Porter of Sciotoville; a sister, Kelly Campbell of Hartsville, SC and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 15^th, at the BRANT FUNERAL SERVICE IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Tim Wright officiating.  Interment will be in Scioto Burial Park. 

The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday.
