Merdy Smith

Merdy Lee Smith, 72, of Sciotoville, went to be with his Lord on Friday, December 10, 2010 at his residence in Rigrish Addition after a courageous brief battle with cancer. Born September 8, 1938 in Sciotoville, he was a son of Meredith “Merd” Smith and Lillian Martin Smith, was a retired Teamster, an Army veteran, and attended Bonser Run Christian Baptist Church. Merdy was very proud to be a member of Western Sun Masonic Lodge where he was current education officer and former past master. He was also a member of the Valley of Cincinnati Scottish Rite and co-owner of Anchor Pad Marina. Preceding him in death was his father, Merd Smith, a brother Hobert Smith, sisters Marietta Cooper and Carol Justice and a grandson, Tanner Smith. Surviving are 3 daughters, Cindy (Dave) Munn and Penny Burchett, all of Portsmouth and Rhonda (T.L.) Willis of Washington Courthouse, a son, Mardy L. (Jessica Tufts) Smith, his mother, Lillian Martin Smith of Sciotoville, brothers Arnie Smith of Portsmouth, Jack Cooper of Wheelersburg and Don Smith of Clarktown, sisters Pauline Boggs of Toledo, Janie Dixon of Butler and Rosetta Thompson of Franklin Furnace, 12 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many, many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the Brant Funeral Home in Sciotoville with Pastor Todd Lockyer and Pastor Bryan White officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by the James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion. The family will receive friends at Brant’s in Sciotoville from 4-8 p.m. on Tuesday. A Masonic service will be 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be made to Western Sun Masonic Lodge or SOMC Hospice.
