Nile T. “Butch” Sanford, age 81, of Temperance, MI, passed away on Wednesday, February 9, 2022 at the Toledo Hospital. Born on February 22, 1940 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Clarence and Gladys “Goldie” Schuler Sanford.
Butch worked tireless hours to provide for his family, having worked at North Star Steel in Wilton, IA for 3 years, and many jobs in Monroe, MI for another 27 years, and retired as a machinist in 2005 after 15 years.
He had many hobbies, including golfing and fishing, and he had a passion for woodworking. He always made time to go to ballgames and many of his children’s events. One of his biggest passions was being a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and never missed watching a game if he wasn’t working.
A 32nd degree Mason, he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #465 in Lucasville for over 50 years.
Butch was a kind, selfless man that would help people whenever they needed it. One of his biggest attributes was his sense of humor, which left everyone laughing as they went away. He was beloved by many and will be so greatly missed. May he rest in peace with his beloved wife of 34 years, Janie, who passed away August 7, 2011.
Also preceding him in death were his siblings, Flo Gaines, Louise O’Dell, Helen Jean Fultz, Carl (Dick) Sanford, Vera Faust, and Donald Sanford.
Surviving are his four children, whom he loved very much, Richard Sanford, Jeff (Tina) Sanford, Gregory (Dawn) Koehler, Todd Koehler; eight grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Thomas.
A graveside service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 16th at the Rosemount Cemetery.
