Richard J. Harner, 82, of Wheelersburg, died Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the SOMC Hospice Center. Richard was born to the late Howard and Lela Harner and was a member of Garden City Free Will Baptist Church in Wheelersburg. Richard was a retired supervisor at AT&T in Oak Hill and served in the Navy as a radio operator on the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Virginia Colegrove. Surviving are his loving wife, Bonnie Widdig Harner, son, Mark (Joy) Harner of South Webster, daughter, Susan (Bill) Rogers of Ashley Corner, one sister, Barbara (Harry) Holladay of Raleigh, NC, one brother, Robert (Joan) Harner of Wheelersburg, brother-in-law, Forrest Colegrove of Wheelersburg, three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and caregiver, Tammy Green. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday at the Garden City Free Will Baptist Church with Blaine Etterling and Dan Widdig officiating. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens with military honors by the James Dickey Post of the American Legion. The family will receive friends at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to SOMC Hospice. The family wishes to thank Tammy Green for the loving care of Rich during his last three years and also extend their gratitude to SOMC Hospice for their compassion at the difficult time.
