Roger G. Wales, 78, of Sciotoville, died Thursday, November 25, 2021, in his home surrounded by his family. Born on May 16, 1943 in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth Harris Wales and was a retired guard at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility.
Roger was honored to be named State of Ohio Officer of the Year in 1989 and was on the special response team at S.O.C.F. He was a member of the Eagles and American Legion and was a former Marine. Roger was inducted into the Southern Ohio Sports Hall of Fame.
Surviving are his wife, Dianne Dunham Wales, four sons, Duane Wales and John Wales, both of Portsmouth, Dan (Sarah) Wales of NC and Shane (Tracie) Dunham of Minford; two daughters, Jodi (Andy) Pierron of Portsmouth and Chrissy (Steve Phillips) Wales of Minford; a sister, Darlene Wales of Lexington, KY; eight grandchildren, Derek Wales, Hannah Wales, Brad (Nina) Pierron, Brooke Pierron, Shelby (Nick) Charles, Caleb Dunham, Steven Phillips and Taylor Phillips, five great-grandchildren and a lifelong best friend, Jerry Vaughn of Florida.
A service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, November 29th, at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE with Pastor Terry Jones officiating. Interment will be in Mound Cemetery in Piketon.
The family will receive guests at Brant’s from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday.
