William Louis Questel II

March 30, 1926 — September 11, 2024

Portsmouth

William L. Questel II, 98, of Portsmouth, went to be with his Lord on Patriot’s Day, September 11, 2024, at the SOMC Hospice Center. Born on March 30, 1926, in Portsmouth, he was a son of the late Francis Michael Lyons Questel and Irma Jewett Questel and was owner of the former Bill’s Ole Barn and Antiques.

Bill was an instigator, earning him the nickname “Maytag”. A 1943 graduate of Portsmouth High School, he was a member of the former West End Businessman’s Association and a Kentucky Colonel.

Bill was very active in his church, St. Mary of the Annunciation, where he was on the finance committee and a greeter.

He was a very proud veteran, where he served in the Merchant Marines and Army Air Corps during World War II. As a veteran, he was a member of the James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.

Also preceding him in death was a sister, Barbara Eldredge.

Surviving are his best friend and wife of 75½ years, Mary Martha Welty Questel, brothers-in-law, George (Janet) Welty and Norman Welty and sisters-in-law, Susanne Welty and Betty (Don) Martin.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., September 18th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Stephen Smith as celebrant. Inurnment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with military honors by the James Dickey Post #23 of the American Legion.

Mary Martha will receive guests at the BRANT FUNERAL HOME IN SCIOTOVILLE from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Memorial gifts may be made to SOMC Hospice, St. John Paul II Scioto Catholic Parish or a charity of your choice.

The flags on the avenue, along with the U. S. Army flag, are flying in honor of our brave patriot, Bill Questel.
